Group Travel

Group Travel has always been a popular way to see the world. People enjoy the companionship and shared experiences. For some, it is a way to meet and catch up with friends. For others, it is the security of travelling with others to regions which are seen as inhospitable.

The Great Southern Rail Groups department is responsible for delivering exceptional Group and Private Carriage travel on The Ghan, Indian Pacific and The Overland.

We have an intimate understanding of our train journeys and how groups can use these services to access some of Australia’s most stunning landscapes, from the Blue Mountains, Flinders Ranges, Nullarbor Plain, the Red Centre and the tropical Top End of the Northern Territory. 

Planning and co-ordination of group itineraries includes hotels, transport and activities / tours. Our Groups department can also tailor make itineraries for small groups (minimum of 10 guests) up to large groups and charters.

We are also able to tailor itineraries for conference, incentive and special interest groups.

Private Carriages

Great Southern Rail has access to four Private Carriages, which can be added to scheduled services of The Ghan, Indian Pacific and The Overland. The Private Carriage fleet comprises The Prince of Wales, Chairman’s Carriages, Sir John Forrest and Governor’s Lounge.

Each Private Carriage is unique and the number of guests each carriage accommodates differs. Due to some operational issues not all carriages can travel on all routes.
